UNDERSTANDING MEDICAL AUTONOMY

What is health autonomy? It is your unquestionable right to make informed decisions about your health based on publicly available research without fear of censorship or politically biased policies which limit access to medications or treatments.

Dr. Zelenko has always stood against medical tyranny and why he often talks about the idea of health autonomy. By definition, in medical practice, autonomy is typically explained as a right of competent adults to make informed decisions about their own medical care. For principled providers, this still means to always seek the consent or informed agreement of patients before any investigation or treatment takes place.

As simple as that sounds, many are still uninformed about how to take control of the medical autonomy and live healthier, happier lives.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

Know your rights. Every day they are under attack by authoritarians who seek to control more than is needed across a range of different issues, including health and public safety. As a patient, you have certain rights. Some are guaranteed by federal law, such as the right to get a copy of your medical records, and the right to keep them private. Many states have additional laws protecting patients, and healthcare facilities often have a patient bill of rights.

An important patient right is informed consent. This means that if you need a treatment, your health care provider must give you the information you need to make a decision.

Always demand to have all the information available to you.

DEMAND HEALING OVER PROFITS

Did you know GlaxoSmithKline agreed to plead guilty and to pay $3 billion to resolve its criminal and civil liability arising from the company’s unlawful promotion of certain prescription drugs, its failure to report certain safety data, and its civil liability for alleged false price reporting practices? It gets even worse from there:

  • Big Pharma receives substantial U.S. government assistance in the form of publicly funded research and tax breaks, yet they continue to charge exorbitant prices for medications.

  • Corruption runs rampant.  In 2018, pharmaceutical companies spent more than $283 million in lobbying dollars to ensure their rights take precedence over yours.

  • Adding insult to injury, Big Pharma also receives a tax deduction for its marketing and advertising expenses.
